Product Description
HARD Motorsport - BMW E36 Racing Sunroof Delete Panel
Shed some weight on your E36 Track build and lower your car’s center of gravity by ditching the bulky sunroof cassette
Our Sunroof Delete / Replacement Panel offers weight savings over the stock sunroof cassette and panel skin without the rough-shod interior look of other aftermarket panels. While the exterior side is designed to replicate the apperance of the stock sunroof panel, the inner panel incorporates an X-brace for added rigidity and a textured finish that compliments our other interior dash and door panels.
Composite Construction:
We manufacture our sunroof panel kit using a special ordered, co-extruded multilayer polymer composite made to our specifications. Each sheet is constructed of a multi-phase material integrated with a polymer matrix and infused with a virgin-grade top layer, resulting in synergistic mechanical properties that cannot be acheived from either components alone.
Each sunroof panel consists of TWO unique layers of these composite materials. A smooth exterior panel bonded to a textured, structural interior panel.
Fitment & Finish:
Thermoformed parts provided are UNFINISHED. Some surface irregularities occur due to the composition of the raw materials, which can vary. These can be sanded out during the prep and finish process if desired. The parts can be prepped and painted using standard automotive plastic prep and finishes. Some scratching or marring of the exterior surface is to be expected and not unusual. Paint or vinyl wrap is highly recommended to protect the material from UV exposure.
Installation is as easy as locating your mounting points, drilling our sunroof mounting flange to accomodate the hardware, then simply fit into place. We highly recommend adding a securing bead of silicone during installation to also weatherproof the panel!
We include hardware for the front and side 5mm mounting points. If you wish to add hardware along the rear flange, you will need to drill small mounting points along the inner support brace. Doing so may result in damaging your roof skin behind the sunroof opening. (This is done at your own risk) Instead, we recommend using silcone or panel adhesive during finally installation. This hardware is not provided. Due to the variables in manufacturing, some shim/spacing may be needed to get a flush fitment with the roof panel.
Slight variances in material and the thermoforming process are possible. We provide a semi-rough cut panel that may require additional trimming and modification to get the fitment and clearance that you desire.
A UV protective coating, paint, or vinyl wrap should be installed to help reduce reactiveness to UV radiation.
We use ABS Plastics because it is ideal for the thermoforming process, is widely available, easy to modify and customize, and can be worked and painted with standard finishes such as automotive paints and vinyl wraps. Plastics are also less expensive than heavier alternatives, such as fiberglass.ABS Plastic is reactive to UV radiation and temperature. Expansion warping may occur with extended exposure to both direct and indirect sunlight, even in overcast conditions. Please keep in mind that a car’s interior will reach temps much higher than the atmospheric temp in minutes when left in the sun without ventilation. Deformation due to UV or heat exposure will not be considered a manufacturing defect.
- E36 2-door coupe
- E36 4-door sedan and touring fitment is possible. The sides of the panel need to be trimmed off about an inch on the sides due to the narrow roof. Additional shim/spacing may be needed for roof flush mounting.
- NOT for compact (or convertibles. Don’t get silly)
THIS PRODUCT IS INTENDED FOR TRACK USE. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR STREET USE.
